Design Thinking / User Experience (UX) Senior Analyst

Role:
EMI Advisors is seeking a Design Thinking / User Experience Senior Analyst who can apply innovative cognitive thinking to the user interfaces and overall experiences of our advanced analytics, visualizations, and application solutions.
This Analyst will be a key member of EMI’s advanced analytics and visualization team, which is responsible for assisting our Federal and commercial clients in creating clarity across highly complex operations. This will include collaborating closely with data visualization analysts, data scientists, developers, business owners and senior leaders to develop innovative solutions to complex design challenges that result in exceptional user experiences.
Key Responsibilities
• Act in a consultative and advisory role to various levels and functions within EMI and with Federal and commercial customers.
• Lead user experience (UX) initiatives with assignments across various workstreams and domains.
• Drive user-centered research, develop a deep understanding of users and their needs utilizing design thinking, and provide user-centric leadership.
• Package insights into tools and assets for product teams to leverage (e.g., personas, design principles, scenarios).
• Lead the development and maintenance of experience and journey maps throughout life cycle of projects.
• Stay current on emerging research, industry, and technology trends related to cognitive systems and design thinking.
• Create a Design System that enables the reuse of common architecture components and templates.
• Apply ‘solutions-minded systems thinking’ and Lean Six Sigma methodologies throughout their projects.
• Own the scope and timeline for their projects and communicate statuses within the team and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Required
• B.S. or M.S. in Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Science, Information Technology, Design and/or the equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
• At least 2 years of experience in UX engineering, UX design, or cognitive systems analysis.
• Deep knowledge of UX best practices.
• High degree of creative problem solving from big picture to little details, with the ability to move nimbly between strategy and execution.
• Strong ability to tackle complex design challenges through creativity, curiosity, and passion.
• Analyzes problems, thinks quickly, and resolves conflict within a changing environment.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects with minimal direction.
• Experience in quantitative, behavioral analysis and statistical concepts.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and principles (Scrum, XP, Lean).
• Advanced communication skills, with a strong ability to synthesize and communicate ideas visually, verbally, and in writing.
• Great attention to detail and problem-solving aptitude.
• Willingness to roll up your sleeves, lean in, and produce creative s and timely solutions to problems.
• U.S. citizenship and authorization to work in the United States are required to secure a security clearance.
• Ability to hold a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
• D.C. Metro area commuting required.
• Qualified for work under Executive Order 14042, Ensuring Adequate COVID Safety Protocols for Federal Contractors, which requires vaccination against COVID-19.
Preferred
• Professional certifications in User Experience Design, Human Centered Design, or Design Thinking
• MS in Cognitive Science or equivalent
• Experience with business intelligence platforms like Qlik, Power BI, or Tableau
• Knowledge of Edward Tufte’s Fundamental Principles of Analytical Design
• Experience with creating and visualizing advanced data models
• Lean Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt
• Experience working on a fast-paced government-funded effort, preferably with the Department of Defense
• U.S Government Secret Security Clearance (active or interim)
