Data Visualization Analyst


Philip Samuel is a Data Visualization Analyst at EMI Advisors, where he uses programming languages (i.e., Python, SQL, and R) and data visualization tools (i.e., Qlik, Tableau, and Power BI) to assist the U.S. Navy with ship-building analytics to advance their mission.  Philip is passionate about generating insights from large datasets and helping clients efficiently meet their goals.

Philip has experience with creating data visualizations and developing data-driven solutions for clients such as the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and MIT Critical Data. During college, he led a capstone team to support MDOT with its market survey of the American Legion Bridge (ALB) through the development of a Python script to analyze 2,690 local destinations and its impact on traffic. Additionally, he led student teams to create machine learning software to predict food inspection outcomes for Prince George’s County, Maryland and developed SQL queries to determine the main factors behind motor vehicle collisions in New York City, New York. During an internship with MIT Critical Data, he led the development of a Python script to extract information from 60+ medical studies to determine gender and geographical biases amongst authors and presented findings to MIT’s Principal Research Scientist.

Philip obtained his Bachelor of Science in Information Science from the University of Maryland, College Park and is eager to pursue a Master of Science in Data Science in the future. In addition, he has obtained software certifications in SQL, Tableau, and Excel. Philip enjoys cooking, exercising, and spending time with family and friends.
