Director of Climate Change and Health Equity


Ms. Priyanka Surio's diverse career intersects climate and health across the public and private sectors. She leverages her skills in data, strategy, and storytelling to drive equitable decision making towards impactful solutions. Ms. Surio's perspective is shaped by her experience leading multi-disciplinary teams within industry associations, healthcare systems, non-profits, government agencies, venture capital, and Google. She also trains the next generation of leaders as an adjunct professor of health IT and informatics at George Washington University. 

Ms. Surio previously partnered with EMI on maternal/child health data standards when she led the Data Modernization and Informatics team at the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO). At ASTHO, she led work on interoperability, informatics capacity building, adoption of new technologies, and data governance for health agencies in the areas of environmental health, health equity, social determinants of health, violence prevention, chronic disease prevention, and disaster preparedness.

As EMI’s Director of Climate Change & Health Equity, she serves at the intersection to leverage innovations that address risks through climate resilient solutions that promote optimal health and wellbeing for communities. She received her Master of Public Health (MPH) with a focus on Epidemiology at George Washington University, and holds certifications in project management and health education. An avid traveler and writer, Ms. Surio has published books on sustainable travel, pulling from her experience traveling to 60+ countries and all 50 U.S. states.
